There is no "best" shipping company in Nigeria — there are four different kinds, and the right one depends on what you are sending. Below is what each type costs, what it suits, and a checklist for telling a real operator from an arrangement.

We are one of the companies on this list, so read the rest with that in mind. We have still written it straight, because a page that says "choose us" five times is no use to anyone deciding how to send their mother's food parcel.

The four types of provider

1Global couriers

International express carriers with their own end-to-end networks, plus the national postal service.

Examples: DHL Express · FedEx · UPS · NIPOST EMS · GIG GoStandard

Typical price
Roughly ₦13,000–36,000 per kilogram, depending on carrier and service.
Best for
Documents, small urgent parcels, and anything where tracking and a firm date matter more than cost.
Trade-off
The most expensive option per kilogram, typically two to three and a half times a consolidator. Most do not publish a rate card for this route.

2Technology platforms

Venture-backed companies that book you onto other carriers through an app or an API, sometimes aggregating several at once.

Examples: Topship · Terminal Africa · Speedaf

Typical price
Published rates. One budget tier was around ₦17,000 per kilogram above 10kg; under 10kg tends to be priced per package.
Best for
People who want to self-serve, compare options on screen and track everything themselves.
Trade-off
You are buying software as much as freight. Under 10kg the per-package pricing can work out high.

3Diaspora freight forwarders

Specialist consolidators built around one corridor, usually with an office at each end.

Examples: Cargonaija · Geeomotayo · Cargo Afrik · Hezelinks

Typical price
Roughly ₦6,800–10,000 per kilogram for air, with minimum weights that are usually around 10kg.
Best for
Food parcels, family shipments, relocations — the bulk of what this corridor actually carries.
Trade-off
Slower than a courier because cargo waits for a consignment to fill. Minimums penalise small parcels.

4Social-media vendors

Individuals and small operations trading through Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp, often with no website at all.

Typical price
Often the lowest quotes on the route, around ₦6,800–8,500 per kilogram.
Best for
Senders who already know the operator personally, or who come through a trusted recommendation.
Trade-off
The hardest tier to verify. Many are perfectly competent; the difficulty is that you usually cannot tell which from the outside, and recourse is limited if something goes wrong.

Prices are from a September 2026 review of published and quoted rates on the Nigeria to UK route. Named companies are examples of a type, not a ranking.

The check almost nobody makes

Seven questions worth asking

  1. Are they registered with CRFFN?

Freight forwarding is a regulated profession in Nigeria. Registration is not a badge of quality, but its absence means the firm is operating outside the law that governs the trade.

How: Ask for the registration, and check the Council directly.

  2. Is the company registered with CAC?

A registered company can be looked up, has an address on record, and has something to lose. An individual trading under a nickname has neither.

How: Ask for the company name and registration number, then search the Corporate Affairs Commission register.

  3. Can you see where your cargo is handled?

A real forwarder has premises where shipments are weighed, logged and consolidated. If everything happens at an address nobody can visit, ask why.

How: Ask for the office address and whether you can drop off in person.

  4. Will they quote your actual shipment, not a rate per kilogram?

A per-kilogram rate is not a price until the minimum weight and the collection charge are applied. Quotes that skip those tend to grow later.

How: Describe what you are sending and ask for the total, including collection and UK delivery.

  5. Will they tell you what you cannot send?

UK rules on meat, dairy and fresh produce are stricter than most senders expect. A forwarder who accepts anything is one who has not read them, and it is your cargo that gets destroyed.

How: Ask directly whether you can send meat. The correct answer is no.

  6. How long have they been trading, and what do reviews say?

Volume of reviews matters more than the average score. A business with four reviews tells you almost nothing, whatever the rating.

How: Look at the Google profile and the review count, not just the stars.

  7. What happens if the shipment is lost or damaged?

This is the question that separates a business from an arrangement. You want an answer before you hand anything over, not after.

How: Ask what cover exists and get the answer in writing, even if only on WhatsApp.

Warning signs

Where we fit

Savoy Snowball Service Ltd is a diaspora freight forwarder — the third type. We consolidate cargo at our office in Ikorodu and ship it to the UK, which makes us cheaper per kilogram than a courier and slower than one.

That means we are the wrong choice for a document that has to arrive on Thursday, and a sensible one for a carton of foodstuffs going to family. We would rather you knew which of those you had before you called.

Common questions

What are the main types of international shipping company in Nigeria?
Four. Global couriers such as DHL, FedEx and UPS. Technology platforms such as Topship and Terminal Africa. Diaspora freight forwarders that specialise in one corridor. And social-media vendors trading through Instagram and WhatsApp. They differ far more in price and recourse than in speed.
How do I know a Nigerian freight forwarder is legitimate?
Start with registration. Section 18(2) of the CRFFN Act No. 16 of 2007 says no organisation or firm may practise as a freight forwarder in Nigeria unless registered with the CRFFN. Then check the company is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, and that it has premises you can actually visit.
Which is the best shipping company in Nigeria?
There is no single answer, because the right choice depends on what you are sending. A courier is best for documents and urgent small parcels. A consolidator is best for food and family shipments above about 10kg. Sea freight is best for a relocation. Judge on the fit, then on the checks.
Are Instagram shipping vendors safe?
Some are competent operators with years of trade behind them. The difficulty is that you usually cannot tell from the outside, and if a shipment disappears there is often no company to pursue. If you use one, use one somebody you trust has used.
What is the biggest warning sign?
A price quoted before anyone has asked what you are sending. Freight is priced on weight, volume and contents. A number offered without those is not a quote, and it tends to change once your cargo is already in the warehouse.

Tell us what you are sending. We will weigh it and confirm the price before anything moves.

Weight and size (optional — helps us quote accurately)
Light but bulky cargo is charged on the space it takes up, so sizes help.

Sending food? Meat and dairy cannot enter the UK from Nigeria. Dried fish is fine up to 20kg. Check your list first.
